  Kurt Donald Cobain nait le 20 février 1967 dans l'Etat de Washington. Son enfance fut heureuse jusqu’a ce que ses parents divorcent. Ce divorce le marquera a jamais. De plus, il ne s'integre pas dans la vie de sa ville: en effet Aberdeen est une localite rude, ou les hommes qui sont machistes et violents, et qui méprisent tous ceux qui sont différents (racisme, homophobies).
Ainsi, Cobain, qui s'interesse peu aux passions locales, comme le foot, est rejete. La musique devient son refuge, et notamment le rock. Pour ses 14 ans, son oncle Chuck lui offre sa premiere guitare et abandonne ses cours de piano. D'apres son professeur de musique. Il rencontre Krist Novoselic en 1982. Kurt Cobain abandonne le lycee le 5 novembre 1985, peu avant l'equivalent du Bac en France. Kurt cherche a monter un groupe (Fecal Matter). Quelques mois plus tard, il propose a Chris de fonder un nouveau groupe, qui deviendra apres plusieurs noms, Nirvana.
Avec la sortie de Nevermind en 1991, Nirvana connait un succes fulgurant et Kurt est propulse au rang de rockstar internationale. Il devient vite le symbole du grunge et l'idole de millions de jeunes. Ceci le rend tres mal a l'aise, il se met a consommer en grande quantite de l’heroine. C'est dans ce contexte que Kurt rencontre, 4 novembre 1989, Courtney Love.Ils se marient  en février 1992.Le 4 mars 1994, Kurt est hospitalise dans un etat comateux, suite a une presumee overdose du a une consommation excessive de champagne et de rohypnol.Certains diront de cette overdose qu'il s'agissait d'une tentative de suicide. Il est admis en cure de desintoxication a la clinique Exodus de Los Angeles. Le 1er avril, Kurt escalade le mur de la clinique et prend l'avion pour Seattle. Le 8 avril son corps est decouvert chez lui, une balle dans la tete, un fusil sur la poitrine, un necessaire de toxicomane et une lettre de suicide a cote de lui. Kurt est mort depuis 3 jours. La cause officielle est celle d'un suicide par balle, precedee d'une forte consommation d'heroine.

Chris Anthony Novoselic nait le 16 mai 1965, en Californie. Ses parents sont croates. Ils étaient venus emigrer en 1963 aux Etats-Unis. Chris connut, comme Kurt, la terrible epreuve du divorce de ses parents. Son enfance et son adolescence se deroulent a peu pres comme celle de Kurt. Chris est depressif et s'ennuie ferme mais un voyage d'un an en Yougoslavie lui fait connaitre le punk. Au retour, il se met a la guitare. Il rencontre Kurt en 1985, par l'intermediaire de Buzz Osbourne, chanteur des melvins et ami commun de Kurt et Chris. Chris accepte d'ecouter la maquette du groupe de Kurt et le rejoint alors en 1986. Le 30 décembre 1989, Chris epouse Shelli. La celebrite lui pese moins qu'a Kurt, en effet, c'est ce-dernier qui devient une star, Chris et Dave n'ont donc pas de problemes avec ca.
En 1993, Chris prend le nom de Krist comme c’est indique sur la pochette d’in utero. Pour l'album From the Muddy Banks of The Whiskah, Krist epluchera des centaines d'heures d'enregistrements de concerts et redigera lui-même les notes du livret intérieur de l'album.
Longtemps pressenti pour faire partie de l'aventure Foo avec Dave Grohl, Krist a prefere monter son propre groupe, Sweet 75, avec Bill Rieflin et Yva Las Vegas. Ce groupe aurait recemment splité. Il a aussi forme avec les membres de Soundgarden une association, le J.A.M.P.A.C. destine a lutter contre toute forme de censure.

David Eric Grohl nait le 14 janvier 1969 dans une petite ville de l'Etat de l'Ohio. Ses parents divorcent alors qu'il n'a que 6 ans.

Il commence a jouer de la guitare a 12 ans. Il fonde un groupe les Freak Baby, a tendance punk mais le batteur ne vaut rien. David echange alors sa guitare contre une batterie et s'y initie en ecoutant Led Zep. Après le split de son groupe, il entre dans le groupe Scream, tres connu dans le circuit hardcore de Washington DC. Il quitte l'école a 17 ans, preferant les tournees avec son groupe.
Anisi lors d'une de ses tournées, il rencontre Buzz Osbourne. C'est lui qui lui propose de rejoindre un groupe dont la desertion des batteurs devient un probleme : ce groupe se nomme Nirvana. Dave Grohl succede donc à Dan Peters à la batterie de Nirvana, juste avant de passer en studio pour l'enregistrement de Nevermind. Sa vie pendant les 3 prochaines années se résume donc, comme pour Kurt et Chris a des tournees sans fin, jusqu'à la mort de Kurt en avril 1994. Dave se lance alors dans une nouvelle aventure : avec Pat Smear (second guitariste de Nirvana lors de la dernière tournée), Nate Mendel et William Goldsmith, il fonde Foo Fighters. En juin 95, les Foo Fighters ont sorti un album qui fut disque d'or en France en 6 mois.

NIRVANA (1987-1994)

Groupe américain de Seattle (état de Washington) composé de Kurt Cobain (guitare & chant) Krist Nivoselic (basse) et Dave Grohl (batterie & chant). Ce groupe s'est dissous en avril 1994 suite au suicide de Kurt Cobain, leader du groupe.
